I took the above photo in Sussex at 8am.
Which direction are we looking and why?
There are some weak clues in the tree branches, slightly closer to horizontal on the left side of the trees showing us south is likely to our left, but the faint rainbow is the star of this puzzle.
The rainbow is big, which means the sun is near the horizon, it must be sunrise or set. The sun hasn’t set yet today, so it must be sunrise.
The sun is close to South-East. The centre of the rainbow would therefore be opposite that, North-West. We are looking at the left edge of the near semi-circle rainbow (which is 42 degrees from the centre ), so we are looking West.
