Which direction are we walking in the video below?
Hint…There are clues in the sun, plants and water.
Answer… Spoiler alert…
The sun is mid-height, neither low nor especially high. So, at this time of year (September) it must be close to south-east or south-west. That means we must be walking close to East or South, but which one.
We can tell that this is a hot, arid habitat and in these enviroments plants often do better in the shade than direct sunshine. There are more small plants around the base and trees to the left of the tower, suggesting south is to the right. There are also clues in the shape of the tree branches.
But look close up and there is a clincher – the left side of the tower has masonry that is still wet from earlier rains. The left side is damp, the right side has dried, so the right side must be the sunnier south side.
Answer… we are walking…
