How to Spot Patterns in Calm Water

If you are trying to work out what calm water is doing, it is sometimes tempting to feel like nothing interesting is happening.

There are always patterns worth spotting, but you have to know a simple technique.

Have a look at this short video.

Try to focus on the very dark areas of water or the very light areas. Not much is happening is there?

But now look at the places where dark areas touch light areas.

Suddenly we can see very small ripple and the patterns become much clearer.

This is nicely emphasised as the ducks cross from light to dark.
