Which Way Are We Looking?

Spoiler Alert… Here comes the answer…

Traditionally…

The highest point of churches is at western end.

The entrance is on southern side, at the western end. The idea is that you enter and then turn to face the altar and therefore Holy Land at the eastern end.

Gravestones align west-east with stone at western end and the writing on eastern side.

There are lots more clues in this picture, but those are some of biggest ones. How did you get on?

Answer: We are looking Northwest.

The photo is of St. Mary’s Church, built in the village of Barlavington, West Sussex, in the second half of the 12th Century.
