Did you spot it?
We notice anomalies, colours or shapes that don’t ‘fit’ – that jar with the patterns our brain expects. This is automatic and takes no skill. Everyone sees the red sofa in a green wood.
But the most interesting shapes are not always the most obvious, and these take practice to spot.
The shapes of the tree trunks on the right of this picture reveal that the landscape has changed. In this case, woodland was cleared, letting in more light from the right and changing the angle of the trunks – this is why they are curved.
