Gradient Affects Sunrise and Sunset Times

Sunrise and sunset come earlier when you are looking uphill and later when you are looking downhill.

In this photo it looks like the sun was close to setting, but this was taken looking uphill 40 minutes before the official sunset time.

This means we can play with sunrises and sunsets when out in the hills. If the sun sets on you in a valley, you can wind back time by walking uphill and vice versa. You can play the film backwards and then forwards.

You can look up official sunrise and sunset times here.
