It is a truth universally acknowledged by town planners that there is no finer word than ‘sneckdown’.
After heavy snow, town planners can see the parts of a road that are being used by cars and the parts that are still covered in snow and are therefore surplus to requirements. This allows them to reclaim the unused parts for pedestrians.
My thanks to Sommer Mathis at Atlas Obscura for making me aware of a ‘sneckdown’.
More on sneckdowns on the BBC website.
