Mist on a summer morning can be a forecast of good weather ahead.
On misty mornings in summer, we can get the feeling that the forecast is poor and a damp day lies ahead.
But look up on these mornings and, if you spot a blue sky directly over your head, it means it’s a radiation mist – a thin layer of cooler air is sitting near the ground. In a couple of hours the sun will have burnt the mist off (or, to be more accurate, the sun will have warmed the land and the air directly above it).
Mist on a summer morning often means there were clear night before – letting the heat out of the land – and can be a forecast of sunny day ahead.
