A misty morning in summer makes many people think they are in for a gloomy day. It’s actually a sign of good weather to come.
When the sky has been clear overnight, the heat radiates out of the land and this cools the air near the ground. The cold layer of air condenses moisture and this creates a bank for of mist – basically a thin cloud sitting on top of the cold ground.
As soon as the sun gets a little height, it warms the land and this lifts and evaporates the mist.
The mist is a sign that the skies have been clear, which is a clue that a good day of weather is very likely.
It’s one of the more counterintuitive signs.
